Visit the park

A 4WD with working high and low range and a steering wheel. No quad bikes. UTV and side-by-side are welcome on public days — and we programme UTV-leaning days in the diary when we can.

You must first contact your insurer and ask whether you are insured to drive off-road, and secondly whether you are insured to drive within a 4WD off-road venue. Get that confirmation in writing (email is fine). It is solely the patron’s responsibility. Vehicles need a current WOF and registration.

There are 100km+ of tracks, so you should not meet much oncoming traffic — still drive like you might. Keep left. Headlights on. 40kph max, often slower. No alcohol in the park. Anyone suspected of having alcohol in the vehicle is asked to leave.

Handy to have: a recovery strap, shovel, basic tyre repair, extra drinking water, and food for the day. Great to have: rated recovery points on the vehicle, a compressor, a spare tube, and a first-aid kit. You’ve got it: a winch, a full recovery kit, spare parts you actually know how to fit, and enough food and water that you are not gambling on the kiosk.

Recovery teams are on-board thanks to 4WD clubs and community volunteers. Call channel 16 on the radio. No radio? Ask to hire one on the day.

You judge the track. You get a map at the gate and coloured arrows on the ground. Club vehicles are out in the park — if you are lost or unsure, find them. We note vehicles in; we will help get you out.

$80 per vehicle per day when the diary says open, typically 9am–4pm. Training, private hire and events are by enquiry. Call Roger on 027 535 5770.
